History of Light of Life Ministries, Inc.

  • May 1984
    • Founders Ray and Susanne Bouchard arrived in Maine. Ray turned on the radio and there was no Christian music. He said “someday Christian radio will cover the state of Maine”.
  • Summer 1984
    • Light of Life Ministries was founded and incorporated in Maine by Ray Bouchard, Susanne Bouchard and Bertha Rideout.
    • Light of Life ministries’ purpose is ministering to body, soul and spirit. As a religious, charitable and educational outreach, ministries were started at 3 different nursing homes with church services on a regular basis for the next 15 years. Susanne played the piano and guitar, the little daughters danced and sang, and Ray preached the Good News. Home fellowship Bible studies were established in the neighborhood of Litchfield and Gardiner. Ray was involved in prison ministry. Ray and Susanne together pastored Christian Family Fellowship for 3 years.
  • 1988 - 1994
    • Salt of the Earth Christian Fair was organized with many volunteers and dedicated staff from the local area, making this weekend event an outstanding family-friendly outreach at the Litchfield Fair grounds. Through encouragement and fellowship, the Body of Christ was brought together.
  • September 1989
    • Ray Bouchard had just resigned from a Congregational pastorate. The next day he received a phone call from WKCG 101.3 FM, the "Country-Giant", with the request to become the host of the Glorious Gospel Hour.
  • 1989 - 2000
    • From 1989 to 2000 Ray served faithfully every Sunday night from 6:00 PM to 1:00 AM on 101.3 FM as DJ and host. Many guests appeared and Glory music, Country/Gospel and Blue Grass music were aired.
  • 1993
    • Bertha Rideout stepped down as a Founding Director. God lead Jane Chapman from Gardiner to accept the Founding Director Leadership role.
    • A building with land was purchased on Bangor Street (Riverside Drive) in Augusta.
    • The 1340 AM radio station was donated to Light of Life Ministries. After Thanksgiving it started airing with Christmas music and became WMDR Augusta 1340 AM Christian Worship.
  • 1997
    • New Beginnings Lawn Care business was added.
  • 1998
    • Obtained license to broadcast on FM 95.3 WWWA 6,000 Watts.
    • First broadcast on April 10, 1998.
    • "The Encouraging Word" with Susanne Bouchard started.
  • 2003
  • 2004
    • Tapestry of Hope Counseling started with Alice Kramer.
    • In October 2004 Bouchard Physical Therapy and Advanced Health moved into the new building
  • 2005

  • 2007
    • 88.9 FM became God’s Country and 1340 AM became ZAP on March 2, 2007.
    • Kids Programming became ZAP on Demand online.
